Viewpoints were plotted when there was a significant change in the direction of the UK coastline.
At each viewpoint we assumed the person would be facing perpendicular to the coastline. As such, we drew a straight line until it touched another landmass.
We then repeated the process for every viewpoint.
When you're at the coast and gaze off into the horizon, do you know which countries are directly across the sea from you?
To find the answer, you can’t simply draw a straight line on a map because the Earth is not flat – instead you need to factor in the curvature of the Earth.
